You will find here an overview of the convenient user interface of our application, followed by a complete step-by-step guide on how to use HAVA Mobile Player for S60.
Fundamentals of the HAVA Mobile Player UI
-
MENU NAVIGATION: In traditional S60 application fashion, various commands are available through the Options left soft key button. See Fig.14 to Fig.21 below for more information on the available menu commands.
-
INNOVATIVE APPROACH: However, we have made the biggest majority of your remote TV controls available via an onscreen UI, as well as via keypad shortcuts.
-
THREE ONSCREEN REMOTE MODES: There are 3 remote modes that you can cycle through by repeated presses on the right soft key button, labeled "Remote": Channel >> STB >> PVR (cycling around). These work whether you are in Portrait or Landscape mode:

Channel Mode STB Mode PVR Mode

Notice that the current streaming data rate is mentioned in Kbps, in the top pane in Portrait view, and in the bottom pane in Landscape view.
- USING THE ONSCREEN REMOTE MODES:
- To use any of the onscreen buttons of the UI, use the Navigation Pad keys to highlight the desired icon. You will notice that as you highlight an icon, its description is shown in the top pane of the screen, between parentheses.
- To issue a command, simply press the Navigation Pad center key. You will notice that the command is being issued by the display of its name preceded by >> (see top left picture in the table above: >> Channel Up)
- CHANGING CHANNELS: Two main options are available:
- Use the Channel Up and Channel Down buttons of the Channel onscreen remote mode, to change channels one channel at a time
-
Type the desired channel number on the numeric keypad to switch to the desired channel. Notice that the channel number issued is displayed in the top pane preceded by >>
- SWITCHING BETWEEN PORTRAIT AND LANDSCAPE MODE AND VICE-VERSA:
There are several techniques to perform such a switching, some available only on certain phone models:
- Sliding the screen over and away from from the keypad
- Pressing the star (“*”) key (bottom left key) on the keypad
- Tilting of the phone, for phone models with an accelerometer
- Choosing the Landscape/Portrait option from the Options menu
- VIEWING TV IN FULLSCREEN LANDSCAPE MODE:
- Upon switching to landscape view from portrait view, video is automatically displayed in full screen
- To come out of full screen mode, you can do one of the following:
- Press the right or left soft key buttons
- Press the "#" or the Cancel/Delete keys
In full screen mode, the Navigation Pad keys are non operational. In order to use them (for instance, to choose an onscreen icon), first exit the full screen mode via one of the methods just mentioned.
- VOLUME CONTROL:
- The phone's Volume Up and Volume Down keys function in the application, but this volume change is local to the application, and not general to the phone's volume setting.
- You should also note this volume change is "proportional" to the phone's general volume setting.
- So if your phone's volume setting is only 50% of maximum volume possible, using the Volume Up key to the maximum possible in HAVA Mobile Player will only give you 50% of the maximum volume the phone is capable of outputting.
- If this is not loud enough for you, go to the phone's system volume setting to up it up there.
- If your phone model does not have any Volume Up and Volume Down keys, you can use the Volume command in the Options menu.
- We have also included a Mute button as the first onscreen icon of each of the 3 onscreen remote modes (Channel, STB and PVR.)
- This buttons triggers a toggle between mute on and mute off at the HAVA Mobile Player application level
- Some STBs feature a Mute function for the STB audio itself. In order to toggle that Mute function, you need to choose the Mute command in Options/IR Commands/STB Commands/Mute
- The phone's Volume Up and Volume Down keys function in the application, but this volume change is local to the application, and not general to the phone's volume setting.
- SHORTCUT MODE:
In whichever of the 3 modes you are (and whether you are in Portrait or Landscape mode), pressing the "#" key on the keypad toggles you into and out of Shortcut mode for the keypad. You will notice the presence of a "Shortcuts" mention in the place where the streaming data rate is otherwise listed.
- In shortcut mode, you can press any of the numeric keys (1 through 0) to trigger their respective icon position. For example, in the PVR mode, pressing the digit key "4" in shortcut mode will trigger the Pause command
- Notice that some of the key positions are different in Portrait and Landscape mode. This has been done to make the onscreen navigation use the most efficient (for non shortcut users)
- To get out of the shortcut mode, press the "#" key again.
- OTHER SHORTCUTS:
Whether in shortcut mode or not, the following shortcuts are always available:
- The "pencil" key toggles you on and off the STB "Navigation Wheel Mode" (see below, Fig.12 for more info on this mode)
- The Navigation Pad center key triggers the highlighted command of the Options left soft key menu. When in non connected mode (i.e. HAVA Mobile Player is currently not connected to any HAVA), pressing this key establishes a connection to the default HAVA (or the last connected HAVA if you disconnected from a HAVA in the same application session)
Step-by-step guide to using
HAVA Mobile Player for S60
| Fig.01 | ![]() |
By default, the HAVA Player will be located probably at the end of your Applications or Installation folder after you install it. You can move it to a specific position of the root folder to give the fastest access to it possible... To move it there, select it where it is currently located, press the left soft key and choose Move to folder and then Root folder and OK. Then go to the Root folder, select it and press the left soft key and choose Move and then the desired location (position #5?) and OK. Press the Navigation Pad center key or Options left soft key and Open to launch the application. |
| Fig.02 | ![]() |
You can select the connection option you wish to use, as is standard for other applications that rely on network connectivity, like the Web application. Choose your WiFi network (WLAN) or your 3G cellular service. Note: for connecting to your WLAN, you can either use the Search for WLAN each time you connect, or you can Define an Access Point for your WLAN in the WLAN Wizard of your phone and then just pick it from the list if you are in reach (like our "2WIRE224" WLAN in the Fig.02). Attention: Make sure that you have a data plan with your 3G service where you are not charged per amount of data downloaded as video streaming is very heavy on data load! Contact your 3G cellular provider to sign up for an unlimited or flat high-usage data plan. |

HAVA is now ready to operate. In the next fig., we will specify your HAVA box credentials (HAVA Name or ID, and password). But once that has been done, you can connect to your default HAVA merely by pressing the Navigation Pad center key in a state like that shown here by Fig.03. |
| Fig.04 | ![]() |
To enter your HAVA credentials, choose Add HAVA |
| Fig.05 | ![]() |
The HAVA Configuration dialog allows you to enter the HAVA name or HAVA ID and password to the HAVA to which you intend to connect to. Select ‘Save’ once you have completed entering the HAVA configuration details. |
| Fig.06 | ![]() |
ENTER YOUR HAVA CREDENTIALS: In the HAVA Options field (defaulted to Use Hava-Name), you can instead choose to enter the 32-character HAVA-ID. Note: Be careful of the current text entry mode (Abc, abc or 123) to make sure to enter your HAVA name correctly, since it is case-sensitive |
| Fig.07 | ![]() |
HAVA Shortcut: You can enter a shortcut name of your choice in this field (like "My home HAVA", e.g.), or you can skip this field and the HAVA Name or ID you entered in Fig.06 will be used by default for the HAVA Shortcut |
| Fig.08 | ![]() |
Enter your HAVA Password: Enter the exact password you specified for remote viewing of your HAVA in the HAVA Setup Wizard PC application you used to configure your HAVA. Note: Be careful of the current text entry mode (Abc, abc or 123) to make sure to enter your HAVA name correctly, since it is case-sensitive |
| Fig.09 | ![]() |
Connect to your HAVA: Once you have entered the credentials of your HAVA, you are ready to connect to it with your S60 phone! Choose Connect either by pressing the left soft key button or the Navigation Pad center key |
| Fig.10 | ![]() |
After a little time (variable depending on the internet connectivity condition at your location and the hops between it and your HAVA), audio and then video will start streaming. You will notice the following stages of connections:
|
| Fig.11 | ![]() |
This is the Channel onscreen remote mode. The buttons available here are Mute, Channel Up, Channel Down, Last Channel and Power. The second row of icons has user assignable buttons. Note: Some STBs may have Channel Up and Channel Down for example disabled. Typically, this is because their physical remote uses other keys to change channels (like the Menu Up and Menu Down in the case of some Dish Network STBs) |
| Fig.12 | ![]() |
Switch to the STB onscreen remote mode by pressing the Remote right soft key. Buttons available are Mute, Guide, Menu, Last STB screen, Page Up, Navigation Wheel, List, Info, Exit and Page Down. When you press the Navigation Wheel button (or the Pencil key shortcut), all icons will be grayed out indicating that the navigation pad keys will now trigger Up, Right, Down, Left and Select commands on your STB as these keys do on the physical remote (instead of navigating the onscreen UI of HAVA Mobile Player). To exit the Navigation Wheel mode, press the right soft key button or the Pencil key shortcut. |
| Fig.13 | ![]() |
Switch to the PVR onscreen remote mode by pressing the right soft key, which is labeled "Remote". Buttons available here are Mute, Skip Back, Skip Forward, Pause, Play, Live TV, Record, Stop, Fast Rewind, Fast Forward. Given the inherent delays of streaming video over the internet, it will take some "juggling and guessing" to control the PVR operation of your DVR, but trust us, with a little practice you will become quite good at it... That's when you can claim that you have become a "HAVA Pro"! |
| Fig.14 | ![]() |
To disconnect from HAVA, either choose the Disconnect command or the Exit command if you don't intend to use HAVA Mobile Player anymore at this time. |
| Fig.15 | ![]() |
The IR Command menu is where you can find all the IR commands that are supported by your HAVA to control your set top box. Most users will only use this menu if they need some commands to operate their STB that are not available in the onscreen UI. The 5 bottom buttons of the Channel onscreen remote will allow you to assign any special command you would otherwise have to go to the IR Command menu of Fig.15 to use them. Pretty neat, hey?!? |
| Fig.16 | ![]() |
This figure shows you the 5 IR Commands grouping we have selected: PVR, STB, Navigation, Channel and Other commands. For a detail of commands available in your HAVA for your STB for each of these groupings, take a look at the corresponding submenu list. The bottom entryof this IR Commands menu is Exit IR Menu. Choose Exit IR Menu to revert to the normal left soft key menu. |
| Fig.17 | ![]() |
The Settings command allows you to set settings for the HAVA Mobile Player (Player tab) and for the HAVA device itself (Input and Picture tabs) |
| Fig.18 | ![]() |
Top part of the Player Settings tab allows you to choose:
|
| Fig.19 | ![]() |
Input settings allows you to switch to another input source on HAVA. |

Landscape non-full screen view of Channel onscreen remote mode |
| Fig.23 | ![]() |
Landscape non-full screen view of STB onscreen remote mode. Note that buttons might not be enabled (like the Exit button in this case — 8th button in the row). Again, this is due to the fact that the HAVA does not have an IR command for an Exit button for this STB. |
| Fig.24 | ![]() |
Landscape non-full screen view of PVR onscreen remote mode. If your STB is not a DVR, all these buttons except Mute will be disabled. In upcoming builds, you will be able to custom assign commands to these buttons. Note that the order of the buttons is different that the order in Portrait mode to make them more convenient to use: Fast Rewind and Fast Forward are next to Pause and Play instead of being right under them. The order of Stop, Record and Live TV is also inversed from the order in Portrait mode. |
| Fig.25 | ![]() |
You can assign an IR command of your choice to all the buttons that appear disabled in any of the remote modes (CHAN/PVR/STB). You can do this by navigating to the disabled button and pressing the navigation pad select key. The button assignment dialog allows you to assign an IR command to the button. The button assignments are unique for an input for a HAVA and are saved so that the assignments exist even when you close the player and launch it again. |
