need is a HAVA box installed at home, the HAVA Player installed
on your tablet and a high speed internet connection at both ends (300 kbps or greater recommended). If you do not already have one, you can purchase
a HAVA at our eStore.

(aka Chinook) and OS2008 (aka Diablo). As always, it is recommended
that you make sure you have the latest update of the Nokia Internet
Tablet OS on your device (see your device’s documentation for
information on how to upgrade its OS) and the latest version of the firmware on your HAVA box.

Remote Control
HAVA Player gives you access to four onscreen remotes on the right side of its UI window: Channel, Favorites, STB and PVR. Use the four buttons at the bottom of the window to display your desired remote:
|
The CHAN mode allows you to enter the channel number you want to change to, onscreen, to go Channel Up or Channel Down with the arrows, or call on the Previous or Favorite commands of your set top box.
The onscreen digit buttons come in handy if you don't want to expand your N810 keyboard, or if you have an N800 which has no keyboard |
|
The FAV mode allows you to assign your favorite channels to the 12 onscreen buttons. You can enter a text label or channel number to identify each of your favorite channels, or you can use channel logo buttons that you would create yourself or get from other users.
Then, to switch to one of your favorite channels, just press the corresponding onscreen button. |
|
The STB mode gives you access to the main functions to control a set top box: Menu, Guide, Info, Record, Page Up, Page Down, Last, Exit, List. In case, your set top box uses non conventional IR commands, you can specify them to enable them on your device.
The 4 colored buttons can be also assigned any command of your choice.
|
|
The PVR mode provides access to all the commands for Personal Video Recorder (PVR) if your set top box includes PVR functionality: Pause, Play, Stop, Skip Back, Skip Forward, Fast Rewind, Fast Forward, Info, Exit, Live TV, Record.
In addition, you can also assign other favorite commands to the 4 colored buttons of this onscreen remote. |
Another great feature is the Mute On/Off button in the top right corner of each onscreen remote. Someone barging in the room and you don't want them to know that you're watching TV?
Press on that Mute Off button quickly...!
For the power-users or keyboard-mongers among you, many of the most used commands also have convenient keyboard equivalents like the digits, channel up and down, menu navigation, page up, page down, play, pause, stop, skip back, skip forward, fast rewind, fast forward, mute on/off, menu, guide, etc.
Switching between Remote Window and Fullscreen TV Watching
To watch your TV in fullscreen, simply tap once on the video screen of the UI window.
Tap again to toggle back to the Remote window
How to Program the ‘Unassigned Buttons’ on the ‘FAV’ onscreen remote.
- Tap on the button you want to program in
the ‘FAV’ onscreen remote. (Unassigned buttons are grayed out)
- Type the desired channel number in the
“Channel Number” field. (Note that you will need to hold the
Fn key down to enter your digits)
- Choose one of the following options to display an image or text on the assigned button:
- Type a text label; up to 5 characters.
(But they may not all display if letters are too wide)
- Select an available logo you want to
display on the button
- Use Other Image if you have stored custom button icons of your own, or acquired from others, on your Internet Tablet. (See notes below for more information re: custom button icons)
- Tap ‘OK’ to save your settings
- If you want to change or remove a Favorite button assignment you have made, tap and hold the button for a few seconds and proceed with your desired changes or tap Clear in the dialog that gets displayed after 2-3 seconds
Notes regarding custom button icons
- Icons should be of maximum size 69x42
pixels (width x height). Accepted formats are png, bmp and jpg.
- You can keep the custom button icon in any
folder of your Internet Tablet including the MMC card. You can
select the custom logo for assignment from the desired folder, by
choosing the "Use Other Image" option in the assignment dialog
- But you will need to make sure that once you have assigned a custom button icon to a button, you continue to have the custom button icon at the same location from where you did the assignment. In case you change the location and the button icon file is not found, you will see a broken file icon
Programming Buttons on STB and PVR Onscreen Remotes
- Some remote controls use different
commands, even for some common commands like Channel Up/Down and
List. In these cases, you may need to program a button to control
some functions from your tablet
- Tap on any unassigned button (or one of the 4 colored buttons).
(Unassigned buttons
are grayed out)
- The “Assign this command” dialog will
open
- Select the desired IR (remote control) code from the drop down menu.
(Note: most of the commands will be self-explanatory, but some will be somewhat cryptic; eg, Discreet Input 2 or Future Pick 5, etc.You can pick the IR code you think will be good, assign it to that button and save your selection, then try the button and if it fails to do what you wanted, repeat the process again and again until you find the right code.A good way to proceed is to test the available IR commands from the application menu’s IR Commands entry and find the proper IR command for your needs. Then pick it from the list in the “Assign this command” dialog)
- Choose one of the following options to display an image or text on the assigned button:
- Type a text label (up to 5 characters)
- Select an available logo you want to display on the button
- Use Other File if you have stored custom button icons of your own, or acquired from others, on your Internet Tablet
(See the notes above regarding custom button icons)
- Tap ‘OK’ to save your settings
- If you want to change or remove a IR command button assignment you have made, tap and hold the button for a few seconds and proceed with your desired changes or tap Clear in the dialog that gets displayed after 2-3 seconds
Note: Factory assigned buttons cannot be reassigned
What do I need, to use HAVA Mobile Player on my Nokia Internet Tablet?
- First, you need a HAVA if you don't
already have one (see next section for more info).
- Connect and configure your HAVA box to
your TV source at home satellite, digital cable or IPTV,
receiver or DVR, or plain analog cable or antenna.
- Finally, download and install the free HAVA Mobile Player for Internet Tablet and enter your HAVA box name and password (which you specified when configuring your HAVA). That's all!
From then on, you can enjoy your home TV wherever you are with a broadband internet connection.
NOTE: Monsoon has recently released the HAVA 1.7.4 software for PCs, which installs a new firmware build on the HAVA device. We have heard from a few users that they have seen performance issues with the new firmware. We are reviewing these reports and expect to have a resolution for them soon.
If you experience problems, please send us a bug report with as much detail as possible in an email with a descriptive subject matter, addressed to support@myhava.com.
Which HAVA model is best to use with my Nokia Internet Tablet?
All current HAVA models are supported: HAVA Wireless HD, HAVA Titanium HD, HAVA Platinum HD or HAVA Gold.
To find information about the various HAVA models, click here. To purchase a HAVA, click on the Shop link of this site, or visit our retail and etail partners...
Note: if your TV source is analog cable or antenna, you probably will think that your only option is the HAVA Wireless HD, which is the only model with a built-in analog TV tuner. But you can also use any of the other models if you have a VCR with TV tuner. Simply connect your TV cable to your VCR's antenna-in port and the VCR to your HAVA.
Issues and Workarounds in Version 1.0
What if I am missing key commands of my STB in the HAVA Player onscreen remotes
Some STBs use different commands to perform certain functions; eg, Dish Network STBs typically do not have Channel Up or Channel Down buttons, but use the Arrow Up and Arrow Down commands instead to change channels. As a result, some buttons may end be unassigned in the HAVA Player onscreen remotes. Follow the instructions above to assign the proper command to your desired unassigned buttons.
If HAVA Player assigned the wrong command to a desired button, you cannot change this assignment. A workaround is to assign the correct command to one of the unassigned buttons or to one of the 4 colored buttons of the STB or the PVR onscreen remotes.
The List button in the STB remote is a good example of such possible problem.
In some situations, video freezes in low bandwidth conditions and sometimes does not recover
While playing video and audio on your internet tablet, a bandwidth value is displayed in Kbps, next to the ‘HAVA Player’ window title in UI window mode. When the bandwidth drops for a while to a level insufficient to continue streaming video and audio smoothly, the video sometimes freezes and might remain frozen, even though the bandwidth may have recovered to an acceptable level.
A workaround for this situation is to disconnect the HAVA Player and connect again, using the HAVA Player application menu.
Large black bars are displayed on the sides and/or top and bottom of the video screen, instead of the video filling up the screen
Thin/Narrow black bars are normal because the video screen is not exactly the same aspect ratio as the source video.
But if you get large black bars to the sides and/or the top and bottom of the video screen, try to change the output settings of your STB. Some STBs will allow you to output the video in a way that will allow HAVA Player to fill its video screen with the TV content.
Note that this issue is specific to STBs outputting HD signals.
Continuous “Buffering” message on connection attempt
While attempting to connect to HAVA, if the player gets stuck on the “Buffering” message, disconnect and reconnect.
Audio and video can sometimes get out of sync after an extended streaming period
If you experience an AV sync problem, we recommend disconnecting and reconnecting again to force an AV resync.
Green blocks at the start of video streaming
After connection to the HAVA device by HAVA Player, the video display starts with a green ‘pixelization’ effect. This only appears for a second or so, after which the video should play normally.
Pay attention to the tablet’s text entry modes when entering case-sensitive data
When entering case-sensitive text in dialogs (like the HAVA Name and Password when adding a HAVA in HAVA Player), make sure that the text entry mode is correct for your needs (Abc, abc or 123). Otherwise, change the mode appropriately, using the shift or Fn keys.
