If you're going to bring facts into this, Hava Hosting won't have anything more to do with you ;)

Just because somebody writes a White Paper doesnt make it correct. They are discussion papers not necessarily full of facts. Just like the ones the US government used claiming Saddam had weapons of mass destruction. Yes all they found were damned big cockroaches.

As Bryanod, who is a network administator for IBM, and who has also worked with Comcast on their broadcasting systems knows, we have yet to see one person who can show us a sling using UDP on remote streaming.

Although people mention it can be done I cannot get one screen shot from statistics from the sling itself showing anything other than TCP streaming.

Just my 2 cents worth. Now my slings only show TCP streaming even if I setup both UDP and TCP ports.

Tell you what... disable UDP in your ports with a sling and run TCP ports.. it runs.

Now disable TCP ports and setup UDP ports... do let us know if you can connect to your slingbox this way. It won't connect because sling do not stream UDP.

I would hate to spread inaccurate information.

Sling wrote the white paper

It's sling talking about how slingbox works

OK I freely admit that I didn't read the white paper and I don't own a Slingbox. But your conclusion above does not follow.

Here's how I thought this worked. Sling uses TCP to set up the video stream. So if you disable TCP entirely, of course you won't see anything. But Sling also gets around some firewall problems by falling back to TCP from UDP when necessary. This explains your observations above, while still allowing the UDP claims by others to be true as well.

What we really need to do as a test is to leave both TCP and UDP open for the Sling, and monitor bandwidth usage for both. I'll bet it's nearly all UDP.
