Video Download (not stream), Power Failure, Norway,+?

Postby Erik on Mon Feb 15, 2010 6:39 pm

Hi,

Until now I have only heard of SlingBox, and that is the only one of it's kind (I think) that we can buy here in Norway. But, SlingBox don't quite have what I want...

So, when I heard of Hava, and read the info about the Titanium HD (without WiFi), it looked very interesting. But, I have a couple of questions:

Question 1:

I understand that a program allready saved on my PVR (planned/using Hava), I can then play that program and save it on an external USB hard disk in high quality? But what then? Is it only possible to playback the saved program and stream it? OR, can I choose to DOWLOAD the file to my computer (abroad)?

I ask because, even though the download would take quite some time, I then could use the high quality video as I like on my computer/laptop. For example; Normally when I travel, when staying at a hotel or friends, their normal TV would in most cases be better than watching a program on a laptop screen. I have used to bring loads of movies and other programs on a USB hard disk, and then plug it, through a WD TV, to the TV, giving great quality. BUT, what about all the programs sent at home during my stay? :( OK, this is where the streaming comes in, right? But, I don't think the quality, especially on poor unstable connections, are any good. Even good connection don't look that good on a 32"+ TV.

Of course, the streaming function would be useful in many situations, but I had hoped for both function.

If you don't support downloading (abroad), would it be that difficult to add? Like adding a FTP client to the Hava firmware, or something?

Question 2:

If a power failure happens, will Hava power up again and continue to be accessible from abroad?

Question 3:

I live in Norway, can the Hava products be bought here, or can you ship it here if I decide to buy it? I can't see any international shipping details in the shop.

In a few months, I'm going to Bangkok, Thailand. Can it be bought there, or shipped there (hotel address)?

Question 4:

Is it difficult to set up a remote control (for the PVR)?
I use (I don't know the actually brand names):
- Get box HD PVR
- Get box PVR

Thanks for any replies! :)

1. Hava have a new system coming out soon that will allow you to record at your home but playback recordings in a remote location. Do not think that a Hava stream wont look good on a 32 inch TV. Here's my Hava in Germany streaming to a large 200 inch projector screen in Taiwan. Also on a 45 inch TV

2. If you power at home goes off then Hava will connect if power comes back on. But I have online UPS systems on my Hava so even if power goes off at home I can still watch for a long time.

3. Hava shipped directly to me in Taiwan and they will ship to you in Norway. There is an international section. Otherwise email Hava and ask.

4. Hava tech support have a data bank of IR codes. They can email you the IR codes for your equipment in most cases. I did send them my remote control which they had mapped in 48 hours.
