Vista MCE "Virtual" IR blaster

Postby quidity on Mon Feb 18, 2008 7:50 am

Hello,

I know this has been asked but I thought I'd see if anyone has come up with a solution.

I have Vista Home Premium on my laptop and the Hava Wireless HD connected to my HD PVR (cable).

Media Centre will not tune any channels above 143 (from what I understand this is because it detects the virtual HAVA tuner as analogue). One way around this is to install a USB IR Blaster so that Vista thinks it is changing the channel on an external device.

I do not have an IR Blaster and would not really want to carry it around with me when traveling.

Is there anyway to trick Vista into thinking that there is an IR Blaster connected (so that it would allow access to the channels above 143)?

Thanks,

Doug.

We have a virtual IR blaster driver for Vista that I am trying to get released from engineering for this purpose.

I have the same problem. A virtual IR blaster driver would be awsome. I am willing to beta test if needed. Thanks

Ditto on the Virtual blaster - I have been a Hava Wireless user since not long after it came out and this has been one of my biggest issues. I have upgraded to Vista as well. Works great - but I use a notebook and don't want to mess with having to hook up the ir blaster everytime I want to use MCE. I would also be willing to beta test.

Is there any new information or downloads that allow for a virtual ir blaster to work inside mce? Would really like an update as it would perfect the hava devices.

Using the Virtual IR Blaster posted by Suudhh on May 23rd, 2008. Seems to work great! This is exactly what I've been waiting for. Unlike someone else reported, I'm not having a problem with recording...everything seems to work well! Vista Home Ultimate 32 bit, HP DV9000 laptop.

One thing to note - to get all your channels, you must answer that you have a set top box -- otherwise, MCE appears to believe you only have ~180 channels. Also, I answered that the highest channel has 4 digits (it does) the instructions state that you should answer 2 digits. Silly me, I don't always follow directions. 8)

I'm also running the HAVA_1.7.3.322-Beta.exe software with great success. I've hooked up a LaCie 500Gig USB harddrive (the one with the silver exterior designed by FA Porshe) and have had great success with recording to the hard drive (both immediate, and scheduled).

I am sure the answer is no but can this me used when remote viewing or does Vista only see the local tuner?

Dear Customer,

Yes, you are Right, MCE only see it as a Local Tuner. You cannot use HAVA as a Virtual Tuner for MCE in Remote Viewing mode.
